I was using a roxio easy CD creator but when I installed xp it is not compatable. I obtained an xp compatable disk but the old creator is in the registry and must be removed. How to do that is the problem. I know you must back up the registry first I don`t know what to do. Is there anyplace with complete instructions on deleting the offending fles from the registry. I really don`t care for messing with the registry but it has to be done.

I notice I have a lot of hotfix files in the add remove files and what do I do with them?

    Thank you.

    Leave them alone.

Does the old version of Roxio's thing show up in add/remove?

What version of EasyCD creator are you running? Version 5 is the only XP compliant version provided you install the free update from the Roxio site and don't install Take Two which is part of the platinum version. Suggest you install the update to v5.35 and if necessary then uninstall the whole package. If there are still leftover keys causing problems then don't go manually searching the registry as you're not experienced in this. Most of us arn't, but some knowledge is desireable to avoid problems, and even then doesn't guarantee everything will be OK

A couple of registry cleaners may help with this problem, as well as general PC maintenence. If you running version 4 or earlier which are not XP compliant then uninstall it and below in my sig. I recommend EasyCleaner and Regseeker to clean out orphaned and unused registry entries. In EasyCleaner also use the unecessary files cleaner, but leave the duplicate files cleaner alone.

If and when you update to WinXP SP2 there now is a Show updates check box at the top of the Add/Remove Programs window that will allow you to "hide" those hotfixes. The updates option is not checked by default.

    Easy CD creator problem

Thankyou to Newt,Paul and DOBHAR FOR YOur advice. I deleted the original easy creator program but that still left the registryy files which show up when booting saying windows will not allow loading of some files due to easy creator. I bought version #6 which is supposed to be xp complient but maybe I am wrong. Anyway I shall try your fixes and maybe that will eliminate the problem, I will not attempt to mess with the registry files. I have enough probleems without creating more. Thanks guys and hope I wont have to bother you for awhile.
    Thank You.

    Hi Woody,

I may be reading between the lines here but are you paraphrasing your problem? Can you quote the error please? I get the feeling that you are having a more specific uninstall problem than is being addressed here. Could it be something more like:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q314060

If not this it maybe something else such as a left over load line problem. Update your post with a quoted error message and a more specific answer will be glady given.

P.S. Neither you nor your problem is "a bother ". This is what we are all here for and most of us do it for the sheer pleasure.

By going to http://www.roxio.com/en/support/ecdc/index.jhtml and type the words, uninstall Easy CD Creator 5, in the knowledgebase search box. When that does it's search in the box that opens the 1st link is in-uninstall Easy CD Creator 4/5 using the RoxiZap Utility. (Article EEZ000206) Then the 5th one has to do with uninstall / reinstall Easy Creator 5 in XP. (Article EEZ000001)
