I run Windows 98, and I have all my folders set to the "Details" view (as opposed to "Large icons ", "Small icons ", etc. Today all the items in any folder set to "Details" disappeared. They are still there - if I change the view (for example to "List ", I can see them again. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I very dimly remember having the same problem a few years ago, but I can't remember how I fixed it (with help I'm sure).

    Thanks.

    Hi jkg31485.
I do not use Windows Explorer much, but I vaguely remember that
if you select the View tab, click the detail view, click the File tab,
hold down the ctrl key and click Close then you have a chance of
Windows remembering it when you reboot the PC - maybe it also takes
effect if you just re-open Explorer.
    regards

    OR....
If you either see only partial information or no information at all when trying to use the Details view in Explorer, odds are the columns sizes are messed up. Just use your mouse, and resize them by moving the arrow until it changes to a horizontal resize arrow, between the column headings on the "Header Line" which is the line that usually contains headings such as Name, size, date etc. Then, click and drag the columns until you can see all the information. If you click on the column headings themselves, it will sort the window accordingly. Double-clicking the column separators will automatically adjust the column widths so that all the information is displayed.

If you don't see any columns, they've all been squeezed to the left. Just take your mouse, and move it slowly around the upper-left portion of the window until the double-arrow (for resizing) appears.

Note: you can also press the keyboard combo of "Ctrl and the + key" to automatically resize all columns (just like double-clicking on each and every column divider). That's the + key on your numeric keypad, not the one next to your backspace key.

    Fixed

I knew I had gone through this before. You were right, and it was easy to fix once I realized what was going on. The columns had spontaneously resized themsleves right off the left margin.

    Thanks for the help,

    John

Hello Ann, I remember you have posted this great tip before, and it has
probably saved many folks from acute respiratory problems.
On behalf of us all - may I say - thanks for your BBS help posts.
