Okay, so, I was using a Windows ME computer this afternoon and everything was fine. My sister was using it later in the day and everything was fine when something went wrong (it was like the ALT key was stuck) and she restarted.

When she did, the computer booted up fine, but the wallpaper had turned gray, a login prompt came up, and when she clicked cancel, Windows stayed gray, the screen resolution was magnified, and an illegal operation came up for QTTask.exe.

Anyone have a clue how to fix this? It's not reading the mouse (when I click add hardware, it recognizes the mouse but says there's a problem), either.

    Try using the System Restore.

If there is no restore point you can revert back to, the next best option is to restore the registry. Reboot the system into DOS mode. At the C:\ prompt, type "scanreg /restore" without the quotes. Note that there is a space between the 'g' and forward slash.
