 After reading all the posts regarding SP2 - I am totally confused. I don't want to ***** up my computer & would like to know if its alright to wait a bit before installing this update. I have a firewall on at the moment -
Would appreciate anyone who can advise me on this - not being a experienced computer user - I don't want to start having all sorts of problems which I will not be able to fix.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lucy

    Hello Lucy,

Sure, its ok to wait until you get comfortable with installing SP2. Use the time to gather info, both individual experiences of people here and read the MS articles referenced here.

Lots of people are waiting here - including myself. I don't know when I'll be installing SP2. It may be this W/E or the week after or I may wait for the cd from MS.

    Regards - Charles

charlesvar--Guess you saw the post from a kind poster who said that the SP2 CD is available (free) from Staples. I got it from them this afternoon. I would imagine Office Max, Office Depot, etc. will also have it, but have not checked.

To Charles - Thanks so much for the reply back - I see where you can get the CD "Free" from Staples. Would it be better to do the installing with a CD rather than downloading from the microsoft site??? I am on high speed but not knowing which would be better - also need advice on this.
    Thanks again,
    Lucy

    Hi Lucy,

As far as installing goes, that's a matter of preference. I don't think it would have any bearing on the outcome.

It would be a good idea to have a disc anyway. If for some reason you had to reload windows, you woud have SP2 at hand.

    Regards - Charles

I would wait a while to see where it is going. There are many people who have had, and many who have not had problems with it.

For myself, I will hold off for a number of months more. I want to see the issues involved.

Lucy--If you install SP2 as offered by Automatic Updates or Windows Update, I doubt you will have any real problems. However, I would disable
    1) Run CheckDisk and Defragment
    2) Disable your Antivirus
    before you install.
After you install, you will find that SP2 installs its own firewall. If you already have one you like, I would disable the SP2 firewall. In any event only have one firewall running.
