Can't Install Microsoft Works 4.5 on XP Pro

I have Works 4.5 installed on my 98SE side of my dual booting computer with XP Pro on my other harddrive, is there a reason why it won't install on the latter? When I try to install I get : D:Windows\System32\AutoEXEC.NT "The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Applications" I'm computer illiterate but is it because it is too old to run on XP and I have to buy a newer version? I actually get the Install wizard and it goes halfway through before I get the error screen.

If so, then do I have to buy the latest Microsoft Works 8 or can I buy an older version that might be cheaper but would still work with XP? Is this stuff discounted anywhere? I didn't know exactly where to post this. Thanks!

I tried following instructions and it asked me to do something I didn't know how to do, hopefully by quiting half way through I didn't mess something up. I guess I'll just have to buy a newer version. Thanks anyway!

 

I really think that's your best option and it should certainly give you new features and smoother operation.

 

I have MS Works 4.0 and it runs just fine on XP Pro. Can't imagine why 4.5 shouldn't do the same. Which part of the MS article didn't you understand?

 

I have MS Works 4.5a which it says is for 95 and it works just fine in XP Pro.

BUT !! There is a possibity that it works because it was already there when I upgraded to 98SE to XP Pro. I did not have to installed it into XP.
