I never use the transfer of profile methods which may overwrite existing information, which I want to keep.

First of all, you will have to tell us where you transferred your profile from. From an existing PC to another location, from one PC to another, with same or different OS. Basically, which instructions.
What do you have in your accounts settings. You would not want to have the same settings of Win98 if you are transferring to XP.
The short answer is that if your account(s) is(are) properly set up, you can easily get your old stuff over. Take a good look at this, from Ramona's Solutions, and post back, if you are not sure.

thanks for your reply...i am transferring from one PC to another, and both have windows XP. i basically copied the whole profile folder from the old computer to the new one (i wasn't worried about overwriting anything else b/c the other computer is brand new and i had just downloaded netscape, so nothing to lose). when that didnt work, i also tried the manual method of copying files (everything but .msf files). both methods got me the same result- everything copied EXCEPT for emails (all addresses, bookmarks, homepages, etc)

    any ideas?

i should clarify...i see the mail files in the new computer profile...i can even read a jumbled version of them by opening them in wordpad...the ONLY thing i can't do is open them through netscape itself...there are no email folders, etc in the communicator itself

You must not have your Local directory pointing to the correct file.
If you have only one account open your Mail and News Settings wizard( just Edit|Mail &...), look at the account|server settings| and see compare what you have with the name of the account on the hard drive. Clicking the Browse button allows you select a different folder. You may have an account name, and then another with -1, -2, so take note on what you have on the hard drive.

    Hi hamster,

When you copy the same Profile to the same OS, you must either not allow a Profile to be created on the new PC when you install Netscape (or Mozilla), OR if a Profile was created, then you must remove that Profiles folder to a temp location before copying the Profles folder from the old PC. This is where you may have gone wrong. Did you follow this guideline:
Move the Same Profile To and From the Same OS.
