I recently got a computer second hand with windows 98. When you click the start button you see "log off Joe Somebody ". Well, I am not Joe Somebody and would like to know how to change it and put my name in. Thanks.

    Hi Beth,
I would do a Start Button/Find in your Windows folder for
    *.pwl
files, delete them and reboot the PC.
Or maybe remove the Logoff entry from the start button altogether ?
Let us know if that's what you want.
    regards

What happens after deleting the files? When I reboot, do I get a window asking for a log off name?

I do not know. This is a single user (me) PC and I have never needed to
use logoff - no users in the control panel applet. If you are unsure of the
effects of deleting the .pwl files, copy them somewhere so that you can
put them back into the Windows folder if neccessary.
    regards

When you delete the *.PWL files and reboot, you will be presented with a login window. Delete the name there and enter the name you wish to use, and click OK. If you do not enter a password, the next time you reboot it will go straight to the Desktop.

Did it - works great! Wish all my problems had as simple a solution as this one. Thanks for the help.
