    hello all,

I just installed the 7.2 and not I can not get it to launch. I get the error message "Error occurred while installing. "
I have removed all of netscape, backed up my profile information, deleted both directories (Netscape folder and the Mozilla folder.) any suggestions? I have tried both the online installer and the off-line installer on this. I saved my profile information to a CD and then tried to un and re install as listed above but I still can not get it to launch. I am on XP and I have closed the virus scan and firewall. I even closed the XP firewall.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

    Juju

    Juju42,

Did you remove the mozilla.org folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org

If not, then uninstall Netscape 7.2, remove the above named folder, which BTW, contains the GRE folder, which may be your problem. REBOOT the PC, then install 7.2 again.

When you copied the Profile to CD, did you zip the file? If not then the file attributes will be "Read only" and you will need to change them in the Properties sheet. Right click the file and select "Properties ".

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Just a follow up. After trying to delete the mozilla.org folder under common files, I still could not get netscape to launch. I did however find a solution to this. I simply uninstalled Netscape 7.2, then I reinstalled it. This time, I changed the install directory from c:\program files\Netscape to c:\program files\netscape2.
This worked, it installed the 7.2 and I was able to open. Believing this to be simple luck, I installed it and let it install in the default directory, no luck, it would not launch. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall changing the path to netscape2. After I was asked to create the folder as it did not exist, I completed the install. Low and behold, it once again launched. So, If any of you have this trouble, I hope this helps =)

I routinely install Netscape in a directory of its own. The reason is that I still have Communicator in the default location. By the way, I don't think that it is a good idea to remove the entire mozilla.org directory. If you have a Mozilla, you would be wiped out. The normal path is: Program files|Common files|
mozilla.org|GRE| specific GREs for each program. I have four GREs in the GRE folder.
