Ad-aware upgrade

Have Ad-aware Plus. Followed instructions to upgrade> uninstall previous
versions in Add/Remove. When I try I get the message "Could not open
Install.Log ". Tried "Unwise.exe" get mess "Install.Log not found ". I sent this info to support, but they have not answered yet. Any ideas?

If you don't want to wait:

Reinstall the original version, that should give you back the missing file.

Or, you can post the problem on the Lavasoft forum for plus.

Let us know the outcome.

Thanks for the reply. I cannot find the install file to do as you suggested.
I had a problem from the start when I 1st upgraded to PLUS. I have
Install.Log files for my plugins but not for PLUS.

There are lots of Lavasoft--Ad-Aware files in the registry. I don't want to delete them one at a time. Any other ideas?? Joe R.

 

Joe, here are your choices as I see them:

You can install SE w/o uninstalling the old one - leave it there. The new one creates an executable w/ a different name, that's the way it worked with the free version. If you look down further, I have a thread in which I did just that because I wanted the old one around for comparison.

When manually uninstalling software, a registry cleaner comes in handy. First, do a file search for instances of the software, than a registry search. Once you've deleted the software's folder from Program Files, a reg cleaner will flag instances of it in the registry, so in other words, the reg cleaner will delete the registry entries.

If you want to clean out v6.0, do it before installing SE. IF you don't mind it being there, install SE.

Well. I got Reg 1st aid. There is a lot to read and learn before I can
get rid of the old versions. Will let you know how I made out.

Reg1stAid is my primary reg cleaner. Any questions, more than happy to help if I can.

Have one suggestion, once you're ready to run it, do so w/o doing any thing with Ad-Aware. This will "clean" out anything current and give you a fresh start - a baseline - with Ad-Aware uninstall w/o any "clutter ".

Use and run awhile before tackling the uninstall.

Glad you said that I tried several times to delete the Reg of Lavasoft
and Ad-aware but it's still there and works. Was hoping to rid the Reg of it
and it would be gone. Am I hoping for too much?

Do you have the Install.Log for 6Plus? If so, could you send it to me?

Hi Joe,

I never had plus - ran the free scanner version. Now running the free SE.

First, did you uninstall the plugins for the old program? If not and the program still operates, do so.

Next, delete the old versions folder in Program Files, then run Reg1stAid.
