    Hey People,
How can I transfer the folder my documents to another hard drive in another computer. From the bad computer's recovery console. I can't boot the computer up all the way is there a way to do it from the recovery console in the windows xp repair.

If you're working with 2 desktops the simplest method is to install the bad drive temporarily in the other computer as a slave and copy the files over.

If you can boot the bad drive to a C: prompt and the Dir command shows all the folders on the drive you have a better than evens chance that the above method will work.

    From a Laptop to Desktop

Thanks for the input but I am trying to take out my documents on a laptop and put them on a desktop. I need to transfer them like that. Really I am trying to think of what cable would I need.

    Thanks
    Dan

Hold on for some more input on this ....

Recovery Console does not allow you to copy to removable media according to Help & Support, so even if the laptop has a floppy drive that method would appear to be a non-starter.

To use any form of transfer cable, be it parallel or network you would need both computers booted up AFAIK

I'll edit your thread title to make your problem a little clearer.

Would you not need both computers booted up to network with a CAT?

The adaptor seems the only viable solution at present - good find :)

    PeteC, I would :)
I believe there are some DOS utilities that might work, but beyond me. Figured I would give him the "cable" info he wanted, but I would go with the adapter, should be much simpler to transfer files as you suggested.

And as used here, NT4/2K/XP/2K3 are all 'NT machines'.
