    System specs:
    P4 2.8C 800mhz
    Intel D875PBZ mobo
    Radeon 9800Pro 256mb
    1gb Corsair PC3500 (2x512) in Dual Channel
2x120gb WD1200JD Sata in Raid 0--> onboard controller
    2x160gb WD1600JD on secondary IDE channel (Master/Slave)
    NEC DVD-RW ND2500A/Samsung SD-616E DVD-ROM on Primary IDE channel
    SB Audigy Gamer
    Using onboard LAN
    Antec 480W TrueBlue PS
    Antec SX1040B case
    WinXP Pro SP1

The bios shows nothing detected on the Primary IDE controller. The ND2500a is jumpered as Master w/the DVD-ROM as Slave and they both show up in WinXP but only in PIO mode. The hard drives show on secondary IDE in Bios and WinXP, both in UDMA 5. If I switch controllers for each setup the bios now detects the optical drives and configures for UDMA 2, while the hard drives are not detected the bios but do show up in WinXP in PIO mode. I have:

    1. Flashed the mobo with the latest bios
    2. Rechecked bios setup per the manual
    3. Rechecked jumper setting on each of the 4 devices
    4. Changed-out IDE cable from rounded to flat for all

I don't know where to go from here except to RMA the mobo back...any drive setup on the primary IDE in VERY SLOW. Sandra says the ND2500 in running at 19x CD read speed w/250ms access times!! This system runs fine...not the fastest but it does very well except for the opticals (or whatever is on the Primary IDE controller).

I'd appreciate some feedback and/or advice and if I left out some info please just ask. Thanks in advance!!

You might try going into device manager and removing the primary IDE channel Controller and cold boot. It will rebuild and maybe take care of the corrupted? file.

Yes, doesn't sound good. Might just try reinstalling the motherboard/chipset drivers (check for later versions at the mobo manufacturers website).
(Edit: also see if the mobo website has a forum. Search or ask there)

PS It may be some sort of SATA vs IDE drama.

Connect only the system (boot) HD. Have nothing slaved with it. If the system drive is of the SATA variety, make sure no IDE drive(s) are connected as well.

I had problems with my system trying to boot from the IDE drive instead of the SATA drive. My MOBO detects the IDE secondary drive first and the SATA drive as second. Haven't been able to change this.

My DFI Boards can't run Sata and IDE 1 Primary at the same time - one or the other but not both.

Also, in setting up some RAID boards, anything on a regular IDE intereferes with a highpoint controller. Talk about a PITA - have to hook & unhook devices just to do an installation. Once the OS is on, up & running - no problem.

    ;)

If I build another system with SATA. I won't be putting an IDE drive anywhere near it (or vice versa). ;)

PITA is a very appropriate acronym. :D

Well, I've tried resetting the CMOS several times, changing the drive setup to HHD (master) + optical(slave), even disconnected the SATA drives and attached one HDD to the primary....no dice!! It's getting RMA'd back to Newegg for replacement today. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. And MAttman I could not find newer chipset drivers on Intels site...no forums either!!
