Currently I have Firefox running. I believe you told me, Ramona, that Firefox and Mozilla install themselves into completelly different directories. If that is the case, when I install NS 7.2 will I be able to simply let it install where it wants? I'm assuming it will establish its own folder and that the profiles (even default) will not overlap. Is this correct? Thanks. :)

No problem if you do not have an earlier NS6/7, as far as the installation goes.
Most people plunge into the installation, but I suggest that look at what Netscape(or any other program) does. It will tell you, very early, where it will install itself, and it does not, necessarily knows best. Youcan make changes at that point.
As for the profile goes, since all profiles for Mozilla and Netscape are located in the same Mozilla folder, you should not allow the new program to use an existing profile. Of course, the powers to be may have wised up, and split the Mozilla profile folder, but I doubt that they will.

    Hi James,

Your assumptions are correct, and as Westside has reiterated, both Netscape and Firefox reside in different directories. Firefox, as you know: ~/Mozilla/Firefox and Netscape 7.2: ~/Mozilla/Profiles. See this screen shot: http://home.att.net/~cherokee68/ffnsfolders.html

Create a Profile for Netscape 7.2 before installing, and as Westside suggested, read the installation instructions, and the Release Notes first. The more information you have, the better.

Better yet... why don't I just dump Firefox and not worry about all this stuff about mixing up profiles and worrying about corrupting this or that? I don't need two browsers anyway and I've always wanted Netscape so why bother with Firefox? I have Opera as a backup and it's great. I think that's what I'll do. When my NS cd arrives, I'm just going to dump Firefox. Thanks.

    James,

O.K., I did a search and see that you did uninstall Mozilla, so you can't create a Profile in advance. Sorry, I had forgotten that!

If Mozilla is no longer installed, and you have Firefox only, then you can't create the folder first. I guarantee that you don't have to worry about Netscape 7.2 picking up the Firefox Profile. You will have no problem whatsoever running the two browsers contiguously.

    Hi Ramona

Yes, about two or three weeks ago I uninstalled Mozilla 1.7. Now... I didn't go into the registry for Mozilla. I went in for Firefox to delete that extension key. I would imagine that there were files left over from Mozilla but if I'm not using Mozilla and NS picked up whatever was left over from the uninstall, would it hurt or corrupt the installation of NS? I can see that if I still was using Mozilla I might have problems but I'm wondering if having remnants of the program will create problems for NS. I'm very hesitant about going into the registry... I guess you know that. :(

Am I missing something, Ramona? Is 7.2 already available for download?

    Hi James,

You can relax, as whatever is left of Mozilla will have no effect on Netscape 7.2. As long as you deleted the Program directory and the GRE folder, you're set.

    Labarum,

You haven't missed a thing. Netscape 7.2 has been delayed, due to the security vulnerabilities. All we know to date is that the CD/Guidebook has been delayed until August 23. When the browser will be released on the Internet still remains a well kept secret...
