I have a Wireless Network between my Desktop and Laptop.

On both computers I have 1 account for me (Admin) and 1 account for my wife (non Admin).

I have set up a Network Drive (Z) to transfer stuff between computers.

The problem is, I can only recieve and access the Z drive from an Admin account.

How do I make the Non Admin account able to receive and access the Z folder?

    Thanks

What Operating Systems are you using?

It should just be a case of give your Wife's account share and file rights on the remote PC (my experience is that leaving the share privalege with just an "Everyone" setting is not only insecure, but also unreliable. It is usually better to add specific rights as I have seen people denied access even though the "Everyone" group has rights). Also note that you have to set/check both the share rights (defined via a Permissions option in the share properties) and file rights (via the permissions tabs of the file/folder properties) seperately.

Im using Win XP on both.

Since the Permissions Tab on the Network Folder needs to know the name of the other computer in the first place, it's not there. Under the ADD button, if I click on Location button, it only lists my computer and not the network computer so I cannot even choose a account name from the network computer to Add.

After thinking about it, I went to Control Panel ~ Admin Tools ~ Local Security Policy ~ User Rights Assignment ~ Under Access this computer from the network, I tried to add my laptops name. I placed MSHOME under the Location button and then added my Laptops name in 'Object Name Textbox' but when I did that and clicked on APPLY, it just said "Failed to Save Local Policy Database" under a Security Templates dialogue box.

Any ideas what I can do to add my networked computer to my PC so that my PC will at least consider networked accounts?

    Thanks

If you log on as your wife, and attempt to connect to the other computer, are you prompted for a username and password?

If I do that, the wireless connection is still there but it will say "Access Denied" or something similar for accessing the mapped network drive as she doesn't have the privileges.

Instead of her trying to access a mapped drive, what happens if she browses to the other machine via network neighbourhood and then double clicks on one of the shares?

Yeah, If I go to her account on the laptop and try to access one of the shares on the desktop through "my Network Places" it can access it no problems. I just found out I can access the Mapped Drive from there.

But i can't access the mapped drive by going to "My Computer" and then clicking on the mapped drive from there.

    It says:
An error occured while reconnecting Z: to \\Xaser\Z (Xaser is my desktop name)

MS Windows Network: The network name cannot be found.

The connection has not been restored

    What can I do now?
