Unable to install programs

Hi

When I attempt to install a program I get the following error box:

16 BIT WINDOWS SUBSYSTEM
D:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS DOS & MICROSOFT WINDOWS APPLICATIONS

I have tried to expand Aoutexec.nt into System32 and even though it says it expands it nothing changes.

I am running Windows XP Pro

According to this Microsoft Knowledge Base article, you must also replace "config.nt" and "command.com. "

If that doesn't work, the article gives more steps to try.

I tried everything on the page and it still didn't fix my problem. I fear I may have to reinstall my Windows.

Have you ever installed this app before on this or another XP machine? Is it possible its doing things xp just isnt going to allow without tweaking (or at all)?
