I'm hoping that someone is able to assist me. The problem I'm having is that macromedia shockwave and flash player will not work with ANY consistency. I've already gone the HJT route,
(see link http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=33152) and have cleaned up lots, but still have the macromedia problem. I have uninstalled both shockwave and flash, rebooted, downloaded the newest from their website, rebooted, and sometimes it will work (until I shut down the PC and turn it on again) and sometimes it doesn't.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jean :)

You still have issues with your HijackThis log. You might want to print this out.

First thing is to download the latest version of HJT. Also download CWShredder both from my signature.
Run another HJT scan and click on these to fix.

Open CWShredder, close all other windows and click fix.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files.
    Click Start.
    Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.

Again, open CWShredder, close all other windows and click fix.

Open Ad-aware, run a custom full scan and delete all it finds.

Click on the Start Button, Tick Use Custom scanning options, Customize
    Scan Within Archives
    Scan Active Processes
    Scan Registry
    Deep Scan Registry
Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
    Scan my Hosts file
Under Click here to select drives + folders, choose:
    All of your hard drives

Click on the Advanced button on the left and select:
    Include additional process information
    Include additional file information
    Include environment information
    Include additional object details

Click the Tweak button and select:
    Under the Scanning Engine:
    Unload recognized processes during scanning
Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile
Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile
    Under the Cleaning Engine:
Tick Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click on Proceed to save the settings.

Click Start and on the next screen choose Activate in-depth Scan at the bottom of the page and then choose:

    Use Custom Scanning Options
Click Next and Ad-aware will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected.

Save the log file when it asks and then click Finish
When finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next).

Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Back in Windows, scan your PC with RAV . Check the box to autoclean. If any files are infected and uncleanable, click the report button then copy and paste it here, along with a new HijackThis log.

Instructions on how to remove the virus. (free online virus scanner)

Make sure you follow the XP instructions. When finished I'd do another scan with rav.

    http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?VName=TROJ_ULTIMAX.A

BTW, are you using a ProxyServer? -

You asked if I use a proxy server; what's it for, and how could I tell if I did?

Thank you for all you help and knowlege,

    Jean :)

Log looks much better. Are you still having issues with macromedia?
    I was curious about the O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5E96071F-371B-439F-AD47-E852760179E0}: NameServer = 205.171.3.65 205.171.2.65
    NameServer info is:
The reason I asked was you're in Massachusetts and the IP goes out west. Doubt it means anything

If you've already performed this just skip it.
Open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link SpywareBlaster , download, install and update. Check for updates weekly. Still in Spybot, click tools in the left pane, then click IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file. Then download and install IEspyads

That will give you an added layer of protection against unwanted parasites.

It also wouldn't hurt after surfing the net for awhile and running another RAV

    LD,

Thank you again. Im not sure what you meant by "if you've already performed...) performed what?

Yes, I'm still having difficulties with macromedia, still won't STAY working, whenever I can GET IT to work.

On a personal note, I'm going in for knee surgery tomorrow (day surgery), so, if you don't hear from me for a day or so...I'm not ignoring you.

Thanks again for your interest and patience.

    Jean

The following task. Use the quick links in my previous post.Open Spybot and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode.

    LD,

Ok, did that. I'll try again to uninstall/reinstall macromedia and see if that made a difference.

    Thanks again

Looks like the online scan get rid of that one  Make sure you've emptyed the Recycle Bin and do a find for dialer123 just in case. After that would you mind posting another hijackThis log?
    Hope all went well :D

I know that I did not remove those lines manually. Could they have been removed when I un-installed Shockwave & flash? If they were, wouldn't they have been put back when I re-installed sw & fl? Is there any way I can manually put those lines back in?

I would have thought so

Are you running anything to prevent downloads, like a registry protect software? I'm running one that will pop-up and ask if I want to allow a write to the registry.

I would think so. Maybe someone on the board who knows how to do it and will post the how to.

The only thing that pops up is Spybot to ask if I want to block the download of things like "doubleclick ". I don't think I have anything else that would block it, but, then again, I've been told to do download so many things, I'm not sure any more.
    Thanks again,

    Hi,

I don't think that those lines in the HJT log had anything to do with the macromedia working, or not working (in this case), as, I was able to uninstall, and reinstall and got it working again for a day. Then again, it was gone. I wouldn't care so much, but, my mother (age 86) uses my computer every day to play slingo. I know it sounds like a small thing, but, it makes her VERY happy, and it's been very frustrating for her and me because I can't get it to work for her like it used to.

Any ideas from anyone would be most appreciated.
