I have a Compaq Presario 5202 with Win98. I have had it since 98. I have kept up on updates and security issues. Even when lightning hit our house and zapped both computers, I lost the screen dislpay but only for a few days. It came back and it's been working fine. I have no computer knowledge but my son helped me put in a new ethernet card and cd burner. It only has 3 gb on it but it is suitable for my stuff. I want to put a dvd burner in but I don't know if I should bother spending the money on it. The kids will be getting a new computer before school starts and I would end up with this one for my own use. I basically use it for personal i.e. downloading songs, movies, emailing friends and craft work. What else could I add to it to keep it going? I know that Microsoft is done with 98 but I have run across people that still are using that OS and really do like using it. If it is not worth updating, then I will look into a better computer for myself.

    Any comments from 98 users?

Hi Jack, Some board members will disagree with me, but my advice to
you is to keep Windows 98 until Microsoft develops something better.
Windows ME, NT, 2000 and XP - these Operating Systems from Microsoft are just full of problems, have dangerous virus loopholes, are very pretty, but
useless if you wish to have your own PERSONAL computer.
It is significant that MS have extended support for 98/98SE - it's the
only OS they did not make too much of a ####'s of.
    regards

I for one will not dis-agree.

As Long as 98 is doing all that you require of it without problems KEEP IT

i do have XP Pro on here so I can make an honest comparision. XP is not doing a thing more or better ( other than taking up 2-3 times the disk space ) than 98 SE did ( and still does on two machines ).

However. In the future you may run into problems with some newer Hardware or software.
