I'm getting a new PC with Windows XP Home Edition. I have Office 97 and am wondering if I can install Office 97 onto the XP system. Thanks.

I installed Office 97 on XP home. The installation seemed to go fine, however, it was very unstable. I experienced quite a few problems while using Word. It would not save documents properly, and sometimes I would loose work all together.

Due to system corruption, which may or may not have been due to Office 97, I ended up having to reinstall Win XP, needless to say, I didn't reinstall Office 97.

    I would NOT recommend it!

Thanks for your comment. Looks like I'll get Office 2000, which should be compatible with XP.

Well, Mach2, I just did what you are talking about and I don't have a bit of trouble with Office 97 in XP. But I have kept my new computer pretty clean -- not installing a lot of old files that I am unsure I need. But they exist on a an older computer. I only use Word, sometimes Excel or Powerpoint. So I haven't really tested it. But it is compatible here. If someone has trouble with it, it must be there's more than meets the eye.

Thanks Pinocchio. I called Microsoft and they said Office 97 should load/work with XP. They also advised to install Office 2000 Upgrade after installing Office 97 to XP, this would assure there'd be no problems.

Well shoot.....call me Mrs. Bill, cause I was about to post the same. That I've not heard of there being any compatibility issues, but if you'd got the chance to get 2000 you'd like it even better. :)
