My son-in-law purchased a new laptop. He had a tech transfer programs from his old PC to the new but he failed to transfer one called HP Photo. I have this program on my laptop so made a CD-R and mailed it to him so he could put in into his PC. He does not know what to click on when the Windows information window comes up(after inserting the disk into the CD drawer) so he can install this program. I am at a loss on how to help him. Can you help?

    Hello artbea,

What may happen is that as soon as the disc is inserted, the autorun will start the disc and there is a piece of software that will start the install.

If not, there should be a setup.exe - the name will vary - but the file extension will be .exe and may have a variation of HPsetup in front of it, HPphotosetup.exe for example.

    Regards - Charles

    artbea,

How did you make this disk - did you make a copy of the original install disk or ....
You cannot just copy the folder in Program Files. When a program is installed much goes into a specific folder in Program files, but a lot is installed into the bowels of Windows. If you followed this route the program will never install on your son's PC.

I would check out the HP Web site for a download.

    artbea,

I made the assumption that it is the program generating software on the CD-R. If you copied out the Program folder from Program Files, as Pete wrote, won't work.

Thank you all for the information. I'll pass it along to my son-in-law and let him go from there.

I really appreciate your prompt replies.
