I use Norton Utilities WinDoctor to diagnose problems on XP. For some time I have been getting the following result (which WinDoctor doesn't seem to be able to fix):

    "C://ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/InstallShield/Professional/RunTime/0701/Intel32/DotNetInstaller.exe" - cannot access a necessary file, "mscoree.dll ".

Is this something I need to be concerned about? How can I fix it??

    Any input appreciated!

I've seen that message too when I ran One Button Checkup and WinDoctor on a computer but haven't found out what mscoree.dll is and if it is critical.

I have a hunch that this error ocurred after installing Photoshop or a video editing program that came with an ASUS graphics card. Do You have any applications of that kind?

    Thanks for that, LD!

Obviously, since my system isn't affected and I don't have the .NET thingy, it doesn't occur on all systems.

Some application must have configured InstallShield at some point in time to "get the condition ".

FWIW, I get that error w/ Win Dr. too. You can "ignore" it safely, and set Win Dr. to quit prompting you about it.
