I did a search and read this post:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=32244&highlight=routers+daisy+chained

Here is my situation. I have a computer room downstairs. It has my DSL modem and my Linksys DSL router. My other computer just got moved upstairs. I cannot connect an ethernet cable and run it through the house or through the walls. Already tried.

So, I was thinking that I could daisy link a wireless router to my ethernet router and just access the wireless router with a wireless NIC on the upstairs computer. Would that work? The link above talks about hubs and switches but what can a switch do in this situation since I have a wireless card upstairs?

I have PPPoE set up on the Ethernet router. I want DSL on the upstairs computer with my wireless NIC card. Will this work?

Technically yes but your easiest approach is just to buy a Linksys Wireless Access Point which is made specifically for your situation. (WAP 11 if you're 802.11b) hardwire that to your current router (cat5) and then get a wireless card for the upstairs PC. I think you'll find that disabling a wireless router to make it behave solely as an access point is a major PITA.

All you need is a wireless Access Point. That will probably be cheaper than a wireless router.

I use a Linksys wireless router at work as an Access point (it is currently sitting waiting for the day we finally get broadband in the backend of Herefordshire). It works fine like that. If you can't get a wireless access point or a router is cheaper get a router. Just don't use the DSL/router functionality.

Another approach would be to ditch the DSL router, install a wireless card in the computer downstairs and link the computers wireless card to wireless card without an intermediate bridging device. You can then connect the modem directly to the computer downstairs and use internet sharing to provide internet upstairs over the wireless link. I think the Access point is a better and more robust solution, but if you are on a tight budget, or have trouble getting hold of an access point it may be worth knowing of an alternative stategy.

Ok, so both of you are saying the same thing. Ok, I'll get a wireless access point, connect it to the Linksys router by cat5 cable...and just use a wireless NIC upstairs to connect to the wireless access point. So.....is it really that simple or do I need to configure the access point?

By the way....should I ditch the regular router and buy this to solve my wired/wireless issue?

Not familiar with this box per se, but am familiar with their PCMCIA cards - about the best that can be bought. Guess its your call.

Ok, I'll bite on this one. I'll go and buy this and see what's up. I'll post the results on here so at least this post will have a conclusion. Thanks for everyone's opinion!
