    hardware

    rite here http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/

I have a copy of that boards manual. pdf format. Uses kx133 via chipset rite?. So windows 98 installed ok? Lets try this now; create a folder C:\copy now copy the whole winxp cd to this folder. If there is nothing wrong with the cd it should work. The setup is there too so you can now at the prompt type c:\copy setup [enter]

I have to say tho when I installed winxp pro on one of my box's, an old super socket seven K6-3/450 AMD....ah real old, everything worked, even my old isa modem, my old scsi card for the microtek scanner 5yrs, everything MS Signature or not XP found the drivers or made sub drivers work:)

    listen now

My old mobo is not on the list either, in fact it's clear off the radar screen:) As is the isa modem microtek scanner, blah blah. And no I also have the original bios installed. Soooooo
Are you trying to install XP NTFS on FAT32 partition here? Sound like the deal ta me! Will not work! Do not format the drive with win98 startup disk unless, you are doing a DUALBOOT Operating system.

    winxp prob

Maybe it's the language barriar? You have windows ME installed on this drive rite now? You are trying to install windows xp over the top like an "upgrade" is this correct?

On my post of april 6, could you "copy" all of winxp over to a folder on the hard drive?

Are you absolutly sure you have the jumpers set correctly on this replacement board? I'm looking at the manual now so no fibbin':)

but windows xp continued to work

When you install Xp - it then gets activated on that HD (it stores a confirmation code). So if you activated it on that hard drive, as I understand it - you cannot reinstall it without calling Microsoft for a Confirmation ID number. Since you changed your hardware (motherboard) as well - that will mean that the info that was stored about your computer will no longer be the same and XP will think you're trying to install it on another machine (from my understanding).

Go to this link and see what I mean;) http://computers.lycos.com/software/xp13.asp

That is probably why you cannot load it successfully again.

    Good luck.

    Yes/no.....but

mukundh, Yes if the winxp cd is good. Is it the upgrade or full ver:? Just remember tho, the motherboard resourses will be installed for THAT mobo & not yours! The sound/video/modem/usb hubs/chipset/cdrom etc: will be diff & will bring another issue when you hood the drive back home in your box. Be prepared! Let me know so I can leave town ok;) just kiddin'.

He's just saying that if you take your HD to another computer --- to install Xp - that XP will configure itself for THAT computer (the sound, graphics, motherboard, usb, etc)....so when you take it home to put it back with your motherboard, and your CPU, you graphics card, you sound card, etc - that it might not work properly.

    Is that what ya meant?

    again?

The only time i get the eula error is when i don't follow the correct installation procedure. Allow the winxp cd to format the drive. When you see the menu; "there is already a primary partition" do not use this one, but allow setup to create it's own. You are trying to install from a win98 startup disc, don't. Use the cdrom selected in the bios as "first device=cdrom,c,a,other :)

About two minutes into setup you will be asked to type the eula #'s in the spaces provided
