A friend of mine has asked me a question which i dont actually know the answer to - although I bet it is a simple process to achieve what he wants.

When my friend turns on his desktop he wants it to boot straight to his own personal settings (he is the only user on this machine).

After fiddling with user settings last night, he has managed to achieve this, but only as administrator - without his personal settings (desktop/favourites, etc) - it doesn't now allow him to choose himself as a user from boot up, but he can log off from administrator and then log on as himself.

What he wishes to achive is turn the pc on and for it to boot striaght into his settings without having to choose a user (i.e. his username as the default user) in the same way that it is currently doing with the administrator account.

Anyone throw any light on this one for me please? XP Pro BTW

    TIA

    Seany

He may be the only physical user of the machine. But he has created two accounts: the default administrator and a personal account. It has to select.

To boot straight into an account, here are the steps:

    1. Go to Start>Run, type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes, note the space after "control "), click OK
    2. In the window that opens, uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer," click OK
    3. In the window that opens, enter the name and password of the account he wants to boot into. If there is no password on that account, leave that blank. Click OK.

    That should do it.
