    Hijack log

Below is the hijack log I created per the advice of one of the responses to remove wintools. I tried other methods such as changing the msconfig startup, however the pesky critter merely changed from wtoolsA to wtoolsS, I'd rather not go through the entire alphabet so downloaded hijack, made the log and now need advice on what to check. While my primary goal is to remove Wintools, I'd be happy to remove all adware/spyware on my pc and if there are other files in the log that will accomplish that I'd be happy to know of them. Other than necessary files for optimal system operation I have no problem eliminating software files containing adware/spyware.

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe

Edit note: we need to see the entire log rather than just some of it to be able to help. If it is too long for a single post, use two. I've removed most of this one to shorten the thread some. Newt

Sorry to sorta trash your first post but all the Hijackthis log is needed and you cut off at least the beginning. Run it again and post the resulting log.

    Hello

Before you Post the whole log this time :)
If Not on a win XP or win 200 system skip this fist step
Click on "Start" => "Control Panel" => "Administrative Tools" => "Services ".
Look for a service called "Wintools for IE Service" => Double-click it to open, then click on the Stop button and change the "Startup type" to Disabled. Do not worry if the service is not listed.

    Then

While offline with all browsers and folders closed>
In control panel add-remove program's uninstall these programs
(if present) in this order, always restart the pc if an uninstaller prompts you to.
'Search Toolbar', 'WebSearch Toolbar', 'WebSearch Tools',
    'Search Assistant'

And as the last step >> 'Win-Tools Easy Installer'.
it will say an internet connection is needed, its not, at that
prompt click "no" then another prompt click "no" then it will want to restart the PC click OK and windows will restart.

then when back at the forums make a Hijackthis log and post it.
But before you do use msconfig >startup and re-enable anything you have disabled since the problems started.

I'd like to know which of the files in the log below to delete in order to permanently remove wintools and any other adware/spyware without comprimising the function of my system. Any help would be appreciated. I used administrative tools and in services, disabled wintools, then uninstalled it using add/remove programs. This is the scan log after I completed those actions.

    after peperfix hijack log

I downloaded peper uninstall 2, exited all taskbar programs, ran it, rebooted, ran it again, just a note it said no peper files were deleted, don't know if that's what was supposed to happen or not. Anyway I deleted the program and rescanned, here's the next log.

    can't download

I've tried going to the link provided for the newuninst.exe file, however for some reason I can't download it. I tried going directly to the sites mentioned in the link to find the file and could not find it. I tried downloading the most likely file, peperfix, however I couldn't download that either. Out of curiosity I tried to download peper uninstaller 2 which I had successfully downloaded, and then used this morning. However I could not download that file either. Has running that program caused some problem that now prevents me from downloading in general? I have no idea what to do now I seem to be going from bad to worse. Please Help.

    1. Locate a file on your PC named hosts (no extension) and rename it to hosts.old.

    2. Click on Start, run, put ipconfig /flushdns in the run line then OK. Note the spaces before and after the / symbol.

    3. Try again and let us know.

Were you able to fix all the items Lonnie suggested that Hijackthis can handle for you?

    still can't download

I changed the file hosts to hosts.old, I went to start-run and typed ipconfig /flushdns then OK, once with spaces before and after the / and once the way it was typed in the reply. I still can't download the file I was told I needed to use and therefore I have not followed the other instructions as they came after that initial step. Any ideas?

    Next Hijack log

Alright, here's what I've done, I checked all of the boxes you indicated in your list, with the exception of these two which were not there.

    R1-HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main, Search Bar = file://C:\WINDOWS\System32\SearchBar.htm

    and

    04-HKLM\..\Run: [3GTAPQ242MSZMR] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Snur.exe

I then set the system to show hidden files, found and deleted the following

    ihvwowi.exe
    dp-him.exe
    IEHost.exe
AutoUpdate (I deleted both the .exe file and the folder)
rpcwid.exe (I deleted this file, however there was another rpcwid.exe-040771CD.pf which I did not delete, should I?)
    wupdt.exe

I did not delete snur.exe as that exact file was not found, I did locate snur.exe-0415CB5E.pf, however I did not delete it, should I?

I did not restart the computer after doing all this as that was not indicated in the instructions, rather I immediately did another Hijack scan and log which I've put in the next post.

Just a note: Out of curiosity I tried to download the newinstal.exe file and was successful. Should I run that file even though I've completed the other instructions?

Another note, I noticed that there is a netscape file in this list, I don't use Netscape. I had it once and uninstalled it the best I could, however it wasn't eager to go. At any rate taking that into consideration should I keep the line with Netscape in it?

By the way, thank you for all your help and patience, I genuinely appreciate it.

    Sorry almost forgot to answer

No I do not have either spyware programs SpyBot 1.3 or Ad-Adware 6 build 181.

The only programs I have that are even remotely of that nature are Norton Systemworks 2004, and Ashampoo's Defender Pro Anti Popup (not the anti-spam)

    Hello again

No there no need to run that newinstal.exe , Peper/trojan is gone :)
Yes you can delete rpcwid.exe-040771CD.pf and snur.exe-0415CB5E.pf
    its not realy nessesary though.
If you look back yes, there was one restart suggested.

Run Hijackthis Place a check next to these, close all browers and programs that show in the taskbar including explorer folder's and hit fix checked.. usualy we say to reboot afterward but since theres no run items its not nessesary
