I've watched the Posts today hoping for a dumb question to cover my post but there are none.

So, I don't understand why My Recycle Bin and Network Icon leave the screen when I set my Computer in the "Regular Start Menu" and they come back when I set it for the "Classic Start Menu. "

All the others stay as they are when changing except the two. Why missing on Regular?

    Win XP Home.

    Hi Mudd,

    Try this:

Go into Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Display > Desk Top tab > Customize bar at bottom > in the Desk Top items panel you will see Desk Top items, the ones checked will appear.

    Regards - Charles

Well, got halfway there. The Net Neighborhood came back but no Recycle Bin. I looked around on the Net and found a registry tick to download. Tried that without success. There are also instructions there to go into the Registry and make changes. I've done things there before but it bothers me while there.

I'd like to change it but it's no big deal. I can change to the Classic and all is well. Would try something else though if offered. :)

    Hi Mudd,

    Kellys Korner http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
Under (I)cons: is this what you saw? It goes thru the procedure that I had you go thru and then a registry addition for the icons - the Rycle Bin being one of them.

    Regards - Charles

EDIT:You now have System Restore - so before making any changes to the system or having a process or software install make changes - create a Restore point and then you can do things like this with more confidance.

Kellys Korner was not what I seen. I did a seaarch on Google and looked at a page but have no idea what/where, just gave instruction for a correction. This was the site that had the registry tick. Tried it, no change. Then it went into detail about Backup and blah, blah. Then it gave specifics and I went there but must have missed a step somewhere because what they said I should see, I didn't see!

Later tonight I may have a "bracer or two" and then try it :D

If I have luck, I'll post back. If not I'll go into the Closet again for a week or so :)

    Success

Charles, while (and before I satisfied my thirst) looking at Tweakui and saw the DESKToP. Dug a little deeper and there is was. A list of things you want to appear on the desktop. Recycle Bil was not checked. Did that and now things are normal.

Sure thank you for your time and advice. :) :(

Your welcome and thanks for letting us know what the problem was. Have to keep Tweakui in mind if this comes up again, that is if I can remember.

BTW: did you post this before or after you satisfied your thirst? :D
    Regards - Charles

I believe it "in between" and that may have cleaned a brain cell or two. :D
