    Hi all

Does anyone have any idea how I can go about disabling Visual Effects (EG: Slide open combo boxes etc) for all users in Windows XP Professional?

What we do is setup the XP box the way we like it ie... "Slide open combo boxes etc" using a <username>. Then copy the entire <username> directory into "Default user" profile folder. This gives all users who log on after the same settings.

Here is the link to the M$ Knowledge base => http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=319974

If you already have user accts your probably going to have to remove them and then recreate them to p/u the new "Profile ".

Just an issue. Will the path of Documents etc be the same? Or is it a generic template for certain settings? (As in wallpaper, visual effects etc).

For anyone reading this that wants to know how to disable XP effects, click here and read post 7 & 12 (PeteC & Zander). This response is not for the original poster, who is trying to configure multiple accounts. The posts above are how to shut off XP's resource using effects, which can help when using older hardware,or inadequate memory, but will not be noticeable, performance wise, on a newer machine, at all, so, if that's you, ignore this post. \

Without setting individual permissions, won't any default users be given a clean configuration? And then, if not restricted, couldn't they return to their own personal settings? Just wondering out loud.

THe "profile" should be what ever you set it up to be "My Documents ", Wallpaper, Printers, ...etc.

There is only one issue I forgot to mention with this method...sometimes the "My Documents ", "My Pictures ", and "My Music" folders for new users are labeled with the <username> that you used to create the profile. You will see this when viewing these folders by using Windows Explorer. So instead of the default folder name you might see "<username> Documents', <username> Pictures, and <username> Music.

You can use the following to fix this problem...
