I am using Win 98SE and Mozilla 1.7, IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.8--Dell Laptop. Starting about a week ago when I shut down [as I do every night] it has started to get to the shutting down screen and stop, I power down and when I start in the morning my icons are all arrrangen on the left side [ I have them arranged around my screen and a program that saves that setting so I can restore them] and the quick launch toolbar on the lower left side is showing. I rearrange my icons and lright click the toolbar and take the check mark out of quick launch and all is well until the next day. Can anyone tell me what is going on. I did install a patch lately from Microsoft about HTML or such. I also updated my EZ Trust Antivirus program from Computer Accociated.

    Thanks,

Hi Quickshot - nice to see you here again !
Regarding Shutdown, maybe the file logos.sys or/and logow.sys has been corrupted ?
    Try a rename of it/them.
Regarding desktop icons, set them up manually and then reboot whilst
holding down the "shift" key - sometimes this helps forgetful Win98 to
    save the desktop correctly
    good luck and regards

Thanks for the reply--I will try and rename the files and see what happens.

Also, right click on the desktop and take the check out of "Auto Arrange Icons." This should tell Windows to leave the icons where you put them!

Thanks for the reply. That is the first thing I checked but had no checks in any of the options. Seems to be working since I held the shift key down when I shut dow,

    Thanks again,
