    ikn0wmyabc - Welcome to the Board :)

If you are not familiar with XP there is a black screen between the Windows logo with the marching blue dots and the Welcome screen. I take it that you have waited a while for the Welcome screen?

Once the screen goes black is there continued hard disk activity to indicate that Windows is still loading?

If there is it looks like you have a problem with the video card/drivers - little difficult to fix with a blank screen!

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode? Keep punching the F8 key (usually) and you should get to a text screen with Safe Mode as an option. Any screen image? Not sure if you would be able to load the video drivers in Safe mode.

Could be a dud video card or monitor. Any chance of trying another monitor on your m/c and your monitor on another m/c?
You mention you bought the m/c recently - still under warranty? I would get in touch with the supplier.

Well i have tried another monitor...maybe it is the video card. I tried running on Last working mode and yes it goes black right after the windows xp loads... basically just like you said before the Welcome screen shows up.

*EDIT* I tried safe mode and it still didnt work. Also it wont be the video card since it at least shows XP screen

So what suggestions would you give to me right now???

If you recently bought it, it should still be under warranty. Let them fix it for you.

It could still be the video card as at the XP screen the card is still in VGA mode and hasn't yet tried to switch to SVGA mode, where your problem may lay. Booting into Safe mode often helps so you can reduce the resolution and refresh rate. But not in your case ;)
    Another video card might help.

Try again for safemode. As Pete says keep pressing the F8 or F5 key twice a second after powering up the PC till the Safe mode options screen appears.

Another failure at this point may indicate a hardware fault such as an improperly seated video card or other fault. But as the machine is new you don't want to void the warranty by tampering to much (if at all!) in the inards, so do as Newt suggests.

well..it seems to me that... the video card is a chipset.. there is no AGP slot or a VIDEO card on the motherboard...in my case...that would mean?

You have onboard video - there is a video chip incorporated into the motherboard.

You did not respond to one of my original questions ....
I can only echo the advice I and others have given - if the m/c is under warranty, don't mess with it, return it.

Did you happen to 'find' an XP CD at the same time??

I think the whole situation stinks worse than road kill after 3 days in the sun. I also think I'll lock this thread.
