I use norton internet security on my daughter's computer to protect against viruses and content. I had been using netscape 4.8 without any problem but now even to get to yahoo mail, I had to upgrade.

After upgrading, netscape 7.1 will not connect to anything. (Netscape 4.8 and internet explorer both connect without any problem.) It will not connect to the internet or even to the router. I have tried changing the settings in security, have disabled the firewall rules (except for the ones that block trojans, etc), but can only connect if I disable the firewall entirely. Unfortunately this disables parental control also.

I used this same setup on my other computer until I upgraded to windows 2000, since internet security will not work with win2k, and had no problem. Her computer is using win 98se.

Anyone have an idea what I need to do to configure internet security to solve this problem?

I have no answer for you, but I know that NIS has been known to do a job on more than one program, or in your case, it is the profile, since you are not getting anything. And, I don't want to knock Norton, which has given me major grief in the past, because other programs of that type tend to foul people up.
I had a couple of links, but I decided against giving them to you. none of them come to a conclusion.
I would like you to do this. Disable the monster. Does it let you in? Check the Advanced|Proxy. I have cable and I am using Direct connection to the Internet.
If you see that there has been a change there, take note. and good luck.

    Found solution

Thanks for your info. I did find a solution finnally. I manually created a firewall rule to let the firewall know that netscape was OK.

What I don't understand is that the older version worked but not the newer one. I made the same upgrade on my other computer and did not have any difficulty. Also normally when a program tries to access the web for the first time, Norton would pop up a window to let you know and allow you to creat a rule for that program. This time it didn't do that. It just wouldn't let the program work.

I think norton internet security is a great program. It has stopped a lot of crazy things that have tried to get in, or in the case of some spyware type programs that snuck in with other programs that I downloaded, it alerted me to them and let me stop them from sending out information.

Thanks again and I hope this may help someone else.
