    Hi Paul,
    thanks for the heads up!

Isn't DirectX 9.0c the version included in XP SP2?

If that's the case, I would think that the appropriate nVidia drivers will be included in XP SP2 as well.

    Interesting Christer,
I didn't think any updated manufacturer video drivers were included in SP1 over what was in the original release. So probably won't be updates in SP2? Because of driver related problems, (due to hundreds, even thousands of drivers?) I didn't think MS included updates in service packs unless there were obvious problems with the ones included in the original OS release.

Yes I guess DX 9.0c will be included though. That will save a 34Mb download!

Having said all that, I could be totally wrong.

    Paul,
I still run under the drivers that were included in the XP+SP1a installation and they work fine. I don't think that my old graphics card is affected by any of the most recent drivers updates. I have tried more recent drivers from nVidia without problems but have, for other reasons, rolled back using Ghost after that. Since updates to DirectX are optional, I've stuck with the original (8.0?).

Now it seems like DirectX 9.0c is unavoidable and I just hope that my old GC can run under it. If not ...... ...... I will probably roll back using Ghost and continue using SP1a until it's time for a new computer, whenever that will be.

Being unified drivers they're supposed to be backward compatible. I'm not sure how far back that is, but on the driver site they give a list of supported models. So you'll probably be OK. But you're right, older cards probably don't benefit much, if at all, and most of these driver and DX updates are for game compatibility and speed issues.

Still it's nice to run the newer ones if possible. ;)

Well, I'm not into games and when I play a rare solitaire ...... ...... the cards come up fairly quickly!
