    Hi

Wonder if anybody here can enlighten me. Control Panel ceased to operate and following MS's corrective procedure, I now have Control Planel operating. I found one file in C:\Windows\System that seems to have been the problem. I have removed it and it's stored in a temporary folder. The file's simply not working.

Can anybody ID the file `bdeadmin.cpl'? I'm even wondering if some spyware, trojan or whatever, stuck it in there. This said, I run Spy Sweeper regularly, Adware every few days, Norton A/V is always up to date and I run IClean every night.

All I know is that the file doesn't belong to Windows 98SE.

    Thank you,

    Hey Welt...

Did you play with or installed a program that uses Borland Database Engine? Quite a few of the Google hits I see are for for this.

One hit mentions "BDEADMIN.cpl is not removed when uninstalling
    delphi3.0 from windows\system "

EDIT: OUCH! :D --> Christer...Great minds think alike...hehehehe. Looks like LDTate went a googling also...

    Hi Welt!

I went google on 'bdeadmin.cpl' and got these hits

It seems like 'bdeadmin.cpl' is the Windows Control Panel entry for the Borland Database Engine. See this link which is at the top of the second page of my search results.

Edited: Kent, You beat me to it!

Thanks everybody. I hadn't thought to look for the file via Google but just did with the same results. It must have been installed by Corel when I installed Word Perfect 11 but NOT Borland.

What I fail to understand is that it hasn't caused problems 'til now. Corel was installed two months or more - probably three - before Control Panel ceased to function.

Will be interesting to see if anything having to do with Word Perfect will be affected. I'm not putting it back.

Once again, I appreciate all the replies.
