I have just bought a new PC with WinXP Home on it.
Can anyone recommend a book that will help me learn about and use XP Home?
I know Win98 pretty well, so need more than just the basics, but not the real techy stuff.
    I have already heard about
    Microsoft's Windows XP Inside Out
    and
    Master Visually WinXP
If anyone has used those, please let me have your reactions.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jim,

I have the Inside/OUT manual - best manual on OSes I've ever had. Comes with a downloadable cd.

Ny copy is two years old now and falling apart - its a big, heavy book - worth every peny.

Supprised to see you on this board - welcome.

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Jim...

I can recommend "Microsoft's Windows XP Power Toolkit" by Walter Bruce, Paul Thurrott, and David Chernicoff. It also comes with a CD. Paul also has a very informative site --> http://www.winsupersite.com/

I also use one of the INSIDE/OUT books for Win2k/WinXP called "Microsoft Windows Security" by Ed Bott and Carl Siechert. It also comes with a CD.

As charles said "copy is two years old now and falling apart - its a big, heavy book - worth every penny. "

I do have a 3rd that I use but it's mainly geared for XP Pro.

    WelshJim,
Congratulations on the transition! You are gonna love XP!

You already know more than you think you do about XP, because of your experience with Win98. The built in "help" is likely all you need. And, of course, ya got us, on the BBS! :D

Just curious, why did you choose the Home version, instead of the Pro?

    Johanna

Thanks very much, guys and gals. Just what I wanted.
It is going to be a busy week or so getting everything transferred and/or installed. I have so many custom tweaks on my old PC. I am not sure I can remember where I got some of them.
Why did I choose WinXPHome? I guess it was a combination of the lower cost and that I really did not see myself needing the extras in Pro. No need for remote access. I am not on a network.
