I have just upgraded from win 98 se to xp, and all my email messages/files and addresses are missing. I have followed the instructions in ms article 313005 to the T, and found all the dbx folders. I then followed the instructions to import mail from an oe6 store directory, and when finished , received the message, all files transfered. But when i open outlook express, nothing is there. Any ideas please.

Were you using OE 6 before the upgrade? If not which version?

To try the easiest thing first, in Outlook Express with the Inbox selected, under View>Current View, make sure "Show all messages" is checked.

    PeteC,
Yes, we were using OE 6.

    Miz,
Yes, the " Show all messages " is ticked.

Are the original *.dbx files still present and are they of a size which indicates they are not empty - i.e. not just a few Kb, but many Kb?

In OE go to Tools > Options > Maintenance > Store Folder button. Hitting that will show the default location, generally C:\ Documents & Setings\ User Name\.....

If you have the original *.dbx files else where move them to a suitably named folder and point OE to them through the change/browse option under Store Folder button. I suspect your import was not successful.

If the *.dbx files exist the messages can be extracted from them using DBXtract
