I'm running XP on my laptop and have a copy of Office 2000, including Access 2000. I'd like to write a database, but when i try to open the Northwind samples I get messages about connecting to an SQL server.

Is XP incompatible? Is there a tweak to make it compatible?

I've installed Office 2000 several times on XP machines. But I don't do Access. "Northwind samples" I'm guessing came with Access? Don't know to tell ya except SQL can use Access databases...

If Access 97 is compatible with XP, I would imagine that Access 2000 is. You may need to update Access.

    Cheers guys.

I checked the microsoft website and in the sytem requirements for access 2000 it doesn't list XP - I just cant tell if thats because XP wasn't around at the time or whether it's incompatible.

Is there somewhere I can email that I might get a definitive answer? Is there something I have to activate in XP to make them compatible?

Totally compatible - just made a full install of Office SBE including Access 2000 to my test PC running XP Pro SP2 RC1 and Northwind opens up fine with no messages re. SQL.

No tweaks in XP required AFAIK, but I suggest you check you have a full install of Office Components.

    Hi pete,

I re-installed on another XP machine and it worked fine. I think you're on the button with an incomplete installation - I'll re-install on the laptop and keep my fingers crossed.

    Thanks for the help!
