    Greetings, O helpful ones!

I've had a lot of problems with my new Dell, so today I capitulated to their suggestion to reformat my hard-drive and start over. At the present, all I have installed on the computer is Mozilla and my anti-virus/firewall program. I've encountered two problems I would appreciate your help with:

    1. I cannot delete messages from the mail program, whether I right-click and select "delete message" or use the pull-down menu under "Edit. "

    2. Before I reformatted, I sent some critical emails to my ISP so that I could retrieve them later. Instead of sending them one at a time, I sent blocks of messages as attachments to an email. When I open these attachments and try to move them to the folder I want them stored in, nothing happens. I've moved stuff between folders before, so I know I'm doing this right, but it's just not working. I've tried moving the messages I can't delete to the trash folder, too, and that doesn't work, either.

I'm also not getting a mail-arrival sound when new mail is downloaded, although that's less critical, since I can see the new mail icon in the tray. Any ideas anyone might have for me to resolve these problems will be cheerfully (and gratefully!) received. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Rose Queen,

For your inability to delete messages:
    Close Netscape & Quick Launch
Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Mail Account Folder
Delete all MSF files in your Mail Account Folder.
Open Netscape, and compact your folders
    Now can you delete files?

Have you tried moving the message which contains the attachments to different folders? I am able to do that, but I can't do anything with the attached messages other than save them to the HD.

    To enable Mail Notification:
    Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Notification
Enable the radio button next to "Custom .wav file "
Enter the path to your .wave file preceeded with file:///
Your path would look similar to this: file:///C:\WINDOWS\MEDIA\chimes.wav

Ramona, you're so helpful that I really hate to impose on you again. I am seriously inept finding files with Windows Explorer. I can't find anything called a Mail Account Folder, even using the search feature. I have mozilla files under mozilla.org and under Documents and Settings, but all the files that have the word "mail" in them under those headings are .dll, .rdf, .xpt file or shortcuts. In short, I need a more specific path to find the mail account folder.

This morning, when I booted, I was able to delete two messages, but that was all -- now I can't delete any. I was able, as you suggested, to move one of the emails with attachments to another folder, but that seems to have been all it was willing to do. Now I can't move anything and, moreover, it's stuck on displaying one particular email, which is junk and marked as such, no matter which email I highlight.

On the mail notification, I just have the system new mail sound checked. Shouldn't that work? I did copy the file you used as an example and it is definitely working.

The more I see what this thing is doing, the more I wonder if I just shouldn't uninstall and reinstall it. I just installed it yesterday, so there's not enough stuff on it to get much mileage from compacting folders, I wouldn't think.

Rose Queen, always refer to Ramona's excellent website for profile location. http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7profloc.html
As for the accounts, you will never find them as "Mail Account Folder ".
With the new computer, you will have WinXP, which hide the profile folders, as you have read, by now. If you make the folders unhidden, you should see your Mail folder.
As for the sound, you will hear a puny blip if you enable the new sound. You should be able to experience it from your Preferences, by clicking on the Preview button. But, I can hear BugsBunny if you follow Ramona's directions, and yo have the file on your hard drive.

Thanks, Westside. I didn't have it set to show hidden files, which is why I couldn't find it. Color me ignorant... :(

Bless you, Ramona! Yes, I can now delete files, but, like you, I can only copy the message that contains the attachments to different folders. It's inconvenient, but I can cope.

I'm so glad you're here and so willing to share your expertise!
