i already know that there are similiar threads about the problem i'm having.sorry about this thread. Anyway...about 4 days ago i've noticed that with windows xp.when i right click on my desktop or anywhere else besides "my Computer" or "My Documents everything is fine. The problem with my computer & my documents is that upon right clicking i get the Windows error box. with the shell32.dll being the colpret. Now for the very very very strage part.... i figured well i just customized windows to much(style xp, cursor xp, etc.) and must have corrupted a file or so so then i decided that a reformat of all my drives C: D: and E: thinking tha twould fix the problem. so i reformat, reinstall windows xp, then try to right click "on a drive withen "my computer" and behold the same freaking problem. what is going on. if u have any questions for me ask away. hopefully someone can provide me with a solution for this ****

    You can also try this:

If you ever get a "Windows explorer has encounter a problem and needs to close" error with "AppName:explorer.exe Modname:shell32.dll ", try putting in your Windows XP CD, then go to start, run, and type in:
    SFC /SCANNOW

This initializes the System File Checker which will check all your system files for corruption and replace from the Windows XP CD as necessary.

Don't know if this will make any difference but you could try: Start>Control Panel> Open System and check off Restore. Then run SFC /Scannow with XP CD in drive. Then reboot. Might be something to try beings it worked until you shutdown and restarted. Just remember to UN check the Restore after rebooting! Start>Control Panel> Open System and UNcheck Restore.
