Yesterday the following message started appearing every time I launch Netscape: Netscape 7.0--A more recent Netscape 4.5+ version of this profile (which contains your bookmarks, email settings, address books and preferences) was found. Would you like to use the more recent profile? YES/NO This is the exact message.
I'm using Netscape 7.02 [Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.2) Gecko/20030208 Netscape/7.02] and have been since it's release. It doesn't matter if I choose yes, no, or just X the box out. Once it's closed, Netscape starts and runs properly. I've made no changes to my system, or to Netscape, for that matter, and I'm the only user of this machine. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

    Hi shotsi,

Try changing the name of your Profile, using the Profile Manager.
    Start | Programs | Netscape 7 | Profile Manager
    Select: "Rename Profile "

If you use the command line switch "-p profilename" for your Desktop shortcut, you will also need to change the Profile name there.

That should eliminate the problem. Let us know how it goes.

Sorry....been out of town. Thanks for the reply Ramona. Tried renaming the profile but wouldn't stick. But here's what I DID find...for whatever reason, Netscape 7.02 found a profile from an older version in Program Files/Netscape/Netscape/Users/default and pointed itself at that file rather than the one it's supposed to use in Windows/Application Data/Mozilla/Profiles/default. Haven't a clue what's up with that, but renamed the older file to default-old and now everything's as it should be.

    Hi shotsi,

Good going! Were both Profiles named "default "? At any rate you did great figuring it out...

Yes, both profiles were named "default ". Don't know why the message hasn't occurred before, being that both files have been there for quite some time, but as long as it works. Think I'll dig around a little.....curiousity thing.

    Thanks for being there, Ramona.

    Hi shotsi,

Rather strange that you had to rename the Communicator Profile rather than the Netscape 7 Profile. And as you said, also strange that you hadn't received that dialog until now. Things that make you go hmmmmm?
