I have a usb 2 connection. This port appears to be lost every time I reboot. In order to use any device which is attached to the usb ports, I must disconnect the usb cable and reconnect it while my pc is on. All attached devices are then immediately recognized until my next boot.
    win98Se, all latest updates etc.

    Thanks

jorjab, I see you have two post going. One of the team might put them together as one.
Was this before or after the Epson scanner install?

This has been happening for a while - has nothing to do with scanner although scanner is usb device. I have external hard drive which is also usb and this has been a problem for a while - does not appear to be connected with any known installs etc.

Am I replying to posts properly - coudl not figure out how to post a reply except using the quote?

Had the same problem too when I was running 98SE. There was a problem with 98SE when using a AMD CPU and a VIA USB Controller. There is a patch to fix the problem. If your system has a AMD CPU and VIA USB Controller you can find the download here. It fixed the problem that I had.

No - the patch is for AMD cpu/VIA chipset, you have Intel cpu/Intel chipset.

You may find some answers here , but steer well clear of the Unofficial Service Pack.

Suggest you go to Device Manager when the problem occurs. See if there is a problem identified and concentrate on reinstalling/updating those drivers. seems it can identify and load the drivers when you are running Windows, but does not load the right drivers during startup.

If it is a "USB card ", an add in PCI card...try changing it's position in the PCI slots.

Not sure if this is a connected problem or not but in the last 2 days I occasionally receive the following error and have to reboot. This had never happened prior to installation of the Scanner.
Epson has responded that this is not their problem.

How do I determine what causes this error?
    - Microsoft Knowlege base? and if so how - ie what do I search on?

I do run other usb devices with no additional problems other then reconnect.

    system
    error
    KEBUGCHECKEX: called By C002b547
    Error code is 44
    Parameters: df870900 0 00
    System Halted

PS: device manager never shows any errors for USB

Should I maybe just arbitrarily update the driver for the PCi card?

Could I be runing low on memory and running into problems that way. specifically the C hard drive - ram is 384 but Epson will not let me install their software on anything but C drive where I am running low.

I realize I may now be in wrong thread but it somehow is all related.

    Thanks all
