    Hello all!

My Logitech Cordless Mouse has started acting up on me. It delivers unintentional double and even triple clicks every now and then. I have tried to adjust the double click sensitivity but it doesn't matter how high the setting is.

Is a three years old mouse really ready for the scrap heap?

Is it me getting closer to the geriatric ward?

Could it be one of the recent Windows Updates that has rendered the operating system more sensitive?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

Try another mouse for a while. Process of elimination...

I'll have to go shopping for that but if the condition persists, I'll do it.

The question was a shot in the dark to see if anyone else had the same experience.

A poor performing mouse will drive you nuts. I've ripped out from the pc and thrown em across the room before. I replaced my optical mouse last week cause the four little "feet" are worn. Thought I died and went to heaven with the new one....

    Hi Christer

I'm still with 'connected' technology, but have you checked the batteries in the little beastie?

    Hi Pete!

There is a warning popup window when the remaining battery level gets low. Being the mean, cheap person that I am ...... ...... I have run out of power on a few occasions and it just quits working totally.

The mouse has two AAA size batteries whereas the keyboard has two AA size batteries and the latter last five times longer.

I've had to clean the ball and rollers from dust a few times and I'll try to give it a bit of wind from a can of air to see if it helps.

The condition has actually improved without any action on my part. (Improved = not so frequent double/triple clicks.)

I used a cordless Logitech MouseManOptical (driver 9.75) for three years and then it started working strangely which I attributed to a conflict with a new cordless Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse I installed. The Logitech mouse required two new AA batteries (either Energizer Max or Energizer eTitanium) nearly every three weeks but finally new batteries did not revive it. The old mouse simply quit working as if the batteries were dead...perhaps it was jealous of my new mouse. Of course I have saved the old mouse as it was my best friend and companion for three years!!! Not much of any way to clean an optical mouse but as a last resort I did try a small spray of compressed air directed at the sensor and also used a Q-tip.

I recently received as a gift the cordless Mx700Logitech Optical Mouse which uses two rechargable batteries and has a small combination receiver and charging base. This mouse has eight buttons with changable functions and I am quickly getting attached to it.

    Hi June!

Mine has two buttons and a scroll wheel and that was enough to get into trouble ...... ;) ...... !

On a more serious note, a friend of mine bought the MX keyboard and optical mouse. He experienced trouble where either the keyboard or the mouse wasn't initiated correctly when starting the computer.
The latest drivers seem to be the cure though.

    Christer,
We use a couple of Cordless Mouseman Opticals at work. With W2K on bootup from cold the mouse would occasionally freeze, or sometimes be erratic. Several reboots or connecting a corded mouse, then reconnecting the cordless would fix. Eventually I found a couple things that fixed these freezes.

    1. There was a rouge (second) mouse entry in the device manager that would sometimes appear when installing the Logitech software. Even the latest version.

    2. Unticking "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" in the device manager mouse power management tab.

    Paul,
there is no second entry in Device Manager and no Power Management Tab.

I had a thought that it may have been due to a period of low air humidity. The unintentional "double-click" seemed to occur on button release (no matter how quick or slow i clicked).
Micro switches can be sensitive to air humidity in a similar manner to static charging is more likely under low air humidity.

Probably just intermittent "wear and tear" problems surfacing. Could clean the micro switch contacts. Being a mouse I guess you need to way up how much time you spend. For me I'd get a new one, for a further few years trouble free mousing.

Well, You're right about it not being worth a lot of trouble and investigation from a financial point of view but my curiosity took over and while I was curious it fixed itself which made me even more curious!

As one who spent 35 odd years in R & D I agree :), but I couldn't resist being facetious!

Like me today at work. I stupidly made an unallocated partition active on a W2K machine, instead of just assigning a drive letter to it. (woops!)
Consequently the system didn't boot. "Missing OS "
I tried and tried with the recovery console using fixboot and fixmbr. Had to give up (eventually, sigh!) and reimage the PC. Which only took 20-30 mins. Wanted to fix it the hard way though! ;)
Sometimes you just gotta let go.
