    Hello,
I hope someone can guide me through eradicating this nuisance IBIS thing.
Here is what I have done repeatedly:
    1. Ran AdAware, checked everything and some could not be removed, ok'd AdAware to run on reboot.

    2. Ran Spybot - found 1 entry, supposedly removed

    3. Rebooted and AdAware ran..everything appeared to be removed.

    4. Ran AdAware again because I like sitting and waiting :) appeared clean.

    5. Rebooted again and Ran AdAware...IBIS is back.

    6. Did all of the above again ... now have the added pleasure of some search bar on IE. IE opened as soon as my reboot finished and opened to this page:
    http://download.websearch.com/install/tb_confirm_info.aspx?id=50168&url_log_enable=ON

    7. Ran HijackThis and came up with this log:

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

    Hi sc04
You do have some baddies. Huntbar for one.

Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

While you're waiting, you should go and update HijackThis to the latest version and Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and hit scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Post a new HijackThis log.

Yes it is. Try the link in my signature I would also create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
From the Download Loaded Folder, on the HJT zip file you can right click / cut then paste it in the HJT folder in c: Put the zip file in there and unzip same place. The reason to have the newest version is it'll pickup the latest baddies.

You may want to print this out, or save it to text where you can access it in safe mode.

Download CWShredder from the link in my signature. Save it to the desktop.

    Download and install RegSeeker.

Go to start>run and type services.msc. Locate Wintools in the list, right click and stop. Right click again and select properties. Set to disabled and OK out.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

Open CWShredder, with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders.

Open C:\WINDOWS and delete the file whqnulkp.exe.
Open C:\Program Files and delete the folders OfferApp, Toolbar and PowerReg.

Search the drive for and delete all instances of the following files.

    powerreg scheduler.exe
    powerreg schedulerv2.exe
    powerregschedulerv3.exe

Open C:\Program Files\Common files and delete the folders WinTools.
    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open RegSeeker. Click find in registry and search the entire registry for WinTools and WTools. Delete all.
Open Ad-aware and run. Delete all it finds.
Open My Computer and right click Local Disk C:, then choose disk cleanup. Check all except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Back in Windows, you can re-enable system restore. Scan your PC with RAV. Check the box to autoclean. If any files are infected and uncleanable, click the report button then copy and paste it here, along with a new HijackThis log.

You didn't get all of the RAV report so I can't see what files are infected. Please redo the scan, click report and copy/paste the entire contents of the window.

    Fix these with HJT.

Recheck anything you may have unchecked in msconfig>startup tab and reboot. Post a new log along with the RAV report.

    Dave,

Things are definitely looking better than when I first posted today. :)

Now, when I reboot I get a msg about having used the System Configuration Utility and being currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode. Should I just check...don't show me this message again?

    Thanks,
    Sheila

Yes, that is probably a result of using the safeboot box.

Have you unchecked some startup entries? I ask because of this entry.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto

You may have disabled something from startup that may be a nasty, and it won't show in the log unless it's checked and a reboot done.

Open the control panel, then the Java plug-in. Click the cache tab and then clear.

You will again need to disable system restore, then delete the infected files and empty the recycle bin.
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ATPartners.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\FohqM.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KgnJ8V3.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\VT334ad.exe
    H:\Donna\mirc\mrcpop~1\txplay20.mrc

When I went into msconfig from your first instructions, the only thing I did was check the safe boot box. I went to msconfig startup just now and don't see anything unchecked except one item I disabled a couple of months back which is a qchex entry. I no longer have a need for it.

I cleared the java plugin cache and disabled sys restore, deleted the files and re-enabled the restore.

Should I now reboot...check the don't show me this msg about selective startup again box...and run hijackthis and rav again just to be sure?

I sure would like to flog the people who concoct this invasive garbage to dump on us.

Thanks for all your help today!
    Sheila

Yes to all. Then, update your Java.

Do you have Spybot Version 1.3? If not, download it from my signature and install. Allow it to load SD Helper. Open it up and click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install and update. Check for updates weekly.
    Then download and install IESpyads.

That will give you an added layer of protection against unwanted parasites.

You are most welcome. Happy to have helped! :)
