    Hi

I have just received a brand new computer but can't get the wireless keyboard (PS2 not USB) to be recognised by Windows (Home Edition)

The keyboard is functional until Windows starts to load (as I can enter BIOS screen etc) but once Windows has loaded hitting a key results in a 'beep'. The wireless mouse works flawlessly.

    I have tried
    1) relinking the keyboard - no change
    2) trying the wireless keyboard and mouse on another sytem - both orked perfectly
    3) tried a wired keyboard on new system - worled perfectly (so no problem with PS/2 port)

Something in Windows must be conflicting but device manager reports no conflicts. Anyone have any ideas as this has got me pulling my hair out.

    Regards
    Graeme

    Welcome to the board graeme75

I'd go into device manager and remove the keyboard then reboot. Maybe Windows will find a new device and install the keyboard. You have a strange issue there

    Hi

I have already tried that, but to no avail. It seems to be something that Windows loads in the start up that is conflicting with the keyboard but not the mouse!!!

(PS2 not USB)? No wires right? Do you have a wired mouse? If so, try that with the wireless keyboard. This will tell us if the mouse is conflicting with the keyboard.

    Hi

Ok I will try that, and post results, however they wireless keyboard and mouse worked fine together on my old system.

One thing I forgot to mention is that when the wireless keyboard is plugged in 2 beeps are present just prior to the Windows Welcome screen. When the wired keyboard is plugged in this does not happen.

I tried usin Diagnostic startup but the beeps were still present and once loaded the keyboard would not type just results in a beep whenever a key is pressed

    Ok

I put in a wired mouse and kept in wireless keyboard. Keyboard still resulted in beeping everytime I pressed a key. Mouse worked fine, so don't think mouse is conflicting.

    However to things to note

There was only 1 beep prior to the welcome screen with this set up
The LED on the receiver was red, with only wireless keyboard plugged in. It is normally Green/Amber with the wireless mouse plugged in

Lets do this. Power off the computer and restart in safe mode. Use the F8 key at startup to get the screen that gives you some choices. We want Safe Mode. I'd stay with the wired mouse for now.
Note: you'll need to keep taping the F8 key until the screen with the options comes up. If that works, try to open Notepad / Wordpad and see if the keyboard works.

    Ok

Hit a problem, I have no problem getting to the boot menu by repeatedly tapping F8 (so the comp must recognise keyboard at that point), but once presented with the options keyboard is unresponsive so can't highlight any options with arrow keys or execute them with Enter key!!!
