    Hey all,

Well I set up a network between 3 machines 2 XP home and 1 WIN98SE, after many questions, reading, and posting with the help of members here at windowsBBS I got my network working smoothly as far as file shareing.

All 3 machines see each other and share files fine. Now I am trying to add all 3 printers to the network. I can see the printers from the other machines but they will not communicate with eath other. Can any one give some advice as to how I would make this a simple process :) I am useing TCP/IP protocall for my network and I think my problem is more with the XP machines and setting up the proper ports for the local lan. I am still learning XP as I have always used WIN98SE.

    Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
    Regards,

In other words, you want to be able to print to all three printers from all three compters? How are the printers hooked up? One to a pc?

    1. What are the make and model numbers of the printers? (some printers simply don't work on a network)

    2. Did you install the print drivers on Each machine and dring the installation select the Network printer option?

    3. When you see a printer on another machine in Network Neighborhood have you tried right clicking and selecting the Connect option?

I have gotten the 2 XP machines to work fine together I can use either printer off either machine. My Win98 machine wont comunicate with either XP machine.

    Yes, one to a pc

Make and models are Epson 777, Lexmark X75, and Lexmark Z35

Yes I installed the print drivers on each machine

On my WIN98 machine, which is the one I am having problems printing from on the other printers , I can right click on each printer in Network Neighborhood and the capture I have included is what I see. Can you please explain what "capture printer port" is .

"capture printer port" is for DOS apps. DOS apps can only print to a "physical" port like LPT1. DOS apps for example can't print to \\computername\printername . The capture function resolves that problem. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try.

Which printer is hooked to the 98 machine? As I mentioned, some printers can't be networked. Need to look in the manual and or the web site..

    Steve,

The Lexmark X75 color printer/scanner is hooked to the WIN98 machine. It works fine on it's own with the machine but when asked to print from another or asking the others to print from here just aint getting it I have tried every setting I can see or think of. All is back to where it needs to be and like I say the XP machines work fine both ways.

This looks promising if it were hooked up to an XP machine:

A workaround for manually disabling ICF is provided below. Alternatively, you can run the Microsoft Windows XP File and Print Sharing Wizard to disable ICF.

    To disable ICF manually:
This applies when the Add Printer Wizard is used to obtain a shared print object, or when a local port is created using the shared object (Port Type = Local, Port Name = \\machine_name\share name).

Right click Network Places, then select Properties.
Right click Local Network Connection, then select Properties.
Click the Advanced tab, then click Settings.
Under the Services tab, click Add.
Enter the following information in the dialog that appears:

Description of Service = TCP Port 135 (DCE endpoint resolution)
Name or IP address = 127.0.0.1
    External Port Number = 135
    TCP = [checked]
    Internal Port Number = 135

    Click OK.
Under the Services tab, click Add.
Enter the following information in the dialog that appears:

Description of Service = TCP Port 137 (NETBIOS Name Service)
Name or IP Address = 127.0.01
    External Port Number = 137
    TCP = [checked]
    Internal Port Number = 137

    Click OK.
