    Hello Everyone
Ricky9090 posted a problem with all games, but I have a problem with two in particular; Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator v.1 and Il-2 Sturmovik. These two have very different archeticture. Both of these games worked flawlessly with Win98se. Some might not be familiar with these, but I thought I’d give it a try here. I also play Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator v2 a lot and have no trouble with that version so far. With CFSv1 when prompted to start will play the audio of the opening movie, but no visual, just desktop, then it tries to bring up the Home page. The Home page comes up for about one second, then crashes to desktop. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the game a few times, no change.
    With Il-2 the Home page comes up but just sits there, will not load. Any help will be appreciated. My system is;

    1 220-4882 Dimension 4400,Pentium 4 Processor at 1.6GHz
    1 311-1282 256MB DDR SDRAM at 266MHz
    1 320-7897 19 in (17.9 in viewable, .24-.25AG) P992,FD Trinitron Monitor
    1 320-0252 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce3 TI 200 Graphics Card with DVI
    1 340-3588 40GB ATA-100 7200 RPM
    1 340-1927 3.5in Floppy Drive
1 420-3079 Microsoft Windows XP Home
    1 313-3303 16X/10X/40X CD-RW Drive
1 412-1603 Microsoft Office XP Small Business with EducateU Training
    1 313-0847 Integrated ADI 1885 Audio
    V.90/56K PC Interface Data/FaxCopper Modem

    Thank you
    Regards
    Randy

    Thank you for responding Unixfan
Yes I did get the latest updates from MS and I did try to run the game in compatibility mode. After installing the updates CFS did load and run once. I have not been able to get it to load again. Still no luck at all with IL-2 Sturmovik. The task mgr. says when CFS is trying to load the CPU is running 100%. Is this right? Considering the processor I have? I'm not sure about the other suggestion you made. Could you explain further? Thank you

    ALMI:APCI BIOS

Port 70X71 Its sounds like you have a BIOS problem.
Did your computer come with XP installed on it, if it di'nt. Did you build it yourself and put XP on it or upgrade to XP. If you did either of the last to Your Mother board Bios doesnt support XP's AMLI. Theres settin in your bios you can turn off in ALMI or APCI, that might help if you'r computer came with XP or upgraded.Dont turn off the main ones fiddle with the minnor settings. Write down what you mess with so you can set it back to orginal setting.

You probly will have to up date your Bios by flashing it to a newer
version. wich is a pain follow Bios upgrade insturctions carfully and back up your old BIOS. There an artical at Mirosoft support if you care to read it about the problem under AMLI.
    Good Luck

Thank you aziefel for your response. I agree there is something fundamentally wrong with the XP/CFS relationship. Things are getting even more bizarre . Now the joystick does not work in CFS but is works wonderfully in CFS2 and FS2002 and I get a very weird Error that no one has ever seen before. Now I’m thinking virus or bad CD. I have the latest Norton program. And XP came with the system. All the recommended checks and tests come out normal. Well, I’m still working on it, we’ll see what happens. Thanks
