Note: One of two PCs with plain vanilla installations of Windows XP Pro and Office XP has this problem, the other does not. The PCs were not set up by the same person and they have received different usage by different people over time.

The problem is that there is no "User Templates" item in the Word and Excel Places bar of one of the PCs, so two people in training (sitting next to each other) trying to do the same exercise cannot work in parallel.

Is there a way to get the User Templates item to show up in the Places bar?

    Thank you for your help!

TweakUI for XP is the easiest way to add custom places.

Once installed, in TweakUI go to Explorer>Common Dialogs.

:) Thank you, Miz, that worked!

(Small difference: In the version of TweakUI that I downloaded from your link, the Places Bar settings are on the Open tab.)
