    Hi again, my pc goes through the usual things at startup but slows down badly and goes through all these numbers called checking NVRAM. It never did this before. Can this be removed?
    tks

    Clearing cmos will stop the memory check at startup? I'm not really qualified to reset everything after clearing. So I guess I'll just continue to push the escape key at startup to bypass the memory check.

    thanks anyways

    If this is happening after POST then it could be HIMEM doing it. Check your config.sys file in the root of C:, here is what mine looks like:
    DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\HIMEM.SYS /TESTMEM:OFF /NUMHANDLES=128 /Q
    If you don't have HIMEM loading then .... never mind.

    Best
    EDIT: never mind ... i reread your post, missed NV last time.

    Well, if you don't want to reset the cmos, you could at least change something. Maybe do an autodetect on a hard drive. They usually have something like "highlight the drive and press Enter to autodetect ". Even this might fix the bios confusion.
