I am thinking of buying another computer. I am looking at the Windoes XP home OS and I am currently using the Windows 98se OS. My question is this: I am not replacing my old system with the new one, I will be using both computers, so I need to know if it is possible to access my data files on the 98 so that I may move them to the XP. The 98 has a tape drive that I use for back up but I do no want to get a tape drive for the XP but instead get a CDRW Drive. The 98 only has a regular CD drive and I know that programs have to be installed but I have a lot of data files on the 98 that I want to use on the XP. Is it possible to hardwire between the 2 or is there another way to do this. Thanks

Yes, if both computers have a network card. You will also need a crossover network cable between the 2 computers. You could also use a router w/ a built in switch and regular cat5 cables.

OK I guess that you mean a NIC card when you refer to Network Card. I had one in the 98 but I am using USB to get on the internet. Will I have to have a NIC card in the XP also. They are pretty cheap so it doesn't matter.
    Thanks

Sfantasia: I would suggest you get a DVD+-RW drive instead of CD-RW. They are getting cheaper, hold 4.7GB, much more practical for backup. Speeds now up to 8X, if you can find the media. Lots of 4X media available.

Now backup to 2 DVD discs what used to take 16 CDs.
