    Hi,

My new Dell is running Windows XP Professional. I have one Admin account (Ron) and 3 User accounts (Linda, Steve, Jill).

I've installed Netscape 7.1 and while logged-in as the Admin I created 3 profiles; "Ron ", "Linda" and "Ron & Linda ". When I start Mail & Newsgroups while logged-in as Ron, the Profile Manager opens and I select between the three profiles (which is not exactly what I wanted).

If I login as Linda the browser works fine. But when I open Mail & Newsgroups, the New Account Setup startes.

I would like the "Ron & Linda" profile to be available to both of us (or to all users if that makes things simplier), and the "Ron" profile available only to me, and the "Linda" profile available only to Linda.

I see that all of the profiles I created are in c:\documents and settings\ron\application data\mozilla\profiles\

To get the results I want is the simpliest solution to move the "application data\mozilla\profiles\ron & lind" folder to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data" or to "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data "?

And to make Linda's profile available only to her, should I move "c:\documents and settings\ron\application data\mozilla\profiles\Linda Comcas" to "C:\Documents and Settings\Linda\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default ", or just run the New Account Setup after I login to her account?

After I get all of these profiles working I will be moving Netscape (4.72) data from an old computer (Win98) to the new Dell. I have read (and will re-read) http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/ns7pctopc.html

    Thanks for your help.
    Ron

    Welcome to the Forum, oz5k!

To bypass the Profile Manager, create two additional Desktop Shortcuts for Netscape 7.1. Right click a shortcut, select Properties from the context menu, and click on the Shortcut tab. You will see the Target field which contains the path to the Netscp.exe file. To that path, add this command line switch: leave one space, then add: -p Ron The Target field will then look like this:
    "C:\Program Files\mozilla.org\mozilla\mozilla.exe" -p Ron -quiet
NOTE: the -quiet will eliminate the splash screen, and certainly your choice.

Do the same for the other two Profiles: -p Linda, -p Ron & Linda

All Profiles should be located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles

I don't run Windows XP, but I can tell you the default location of the Profiles folder. That is where all Profiles should be located by default.

Also take a look at this page: http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/nspctopc.html#move

    Hi oz5k

I thought I stumbled across a solution when participating in this thread. Not sure if the problem was Netscapes " .slt " or XP's security. Netscape "exe" program portion is shared between XP's unique logged on users. But Netscapes "profile" (where the mail files are located) is owned by the "logged on user" and has the XP logged on user name built into the path. Ramona was able to "hack" somewhat in a w98 environment... but could not maintain "synchronized" email file data across the "cloned" profiles. To date, I'm not aware of anyone being able to share a singular Netscape mail profile across different XP users having "unique" users names. Not saying it can't be done, just have to bypass (outwit) both Netscape's .slt file protection and XP's built in security to open up the the file from ONE user to many users.
Side note... If you could provide a solution, many would enjoy your success. But understand the solution would be restricted to a "non-networked" enviroment. Sharing a singular file over an network that allows simultaneous updates from multiple users opens up a new set of problems.

I am not sure that I understand this one. You want to share one mail account, the word profile is confusing, among users? The more I read it, my "bulb" gets dimmer.
It may be because I don't have things set up like you. Previous experience, when my son lived with us, and I was using his XP, mostly to troubleshoot problems, told me that one administrator and one User in XP was more than enough. The situation is different with NS7.1, which I am slowly abandoninng.
I have my own Profile, with my accounts, and so does my wife. and, each of us has a couple of common (through way) accounts like Netscape Webmail. At one time we had three or four account in both profiles. How well does it work, like keeping them synchronized depends on the ISP. For some ISP one doownload is all you get. I only wish that it would apply to spam.
Similarly, I have common accounts in Mozilla1.7.1 and Thunderbird0.7.2. This set up is keeping us happy, and we can access the same accounts from different profiles. Is anything like it in your mind?
