Is it normal for the batteries in a Microsoft Wireless mouse to last barely two months?

The keyboard has functioned for almost 14 months on the original batteries, but the mouse, if you like, eats them...

    Yep,
I'm surprised they lasted 2 months!
I put mine on the shelf. I was tired of feeding it batteries and it's not as smooth as a wired mouse.

If you want to keep using it, spend the money now for a set of NiMH rechargable batteries and a charger. Get twice as many batteries as you need so you can change to fresh ones while the others are charging.

Got me a Logitech cordless mouse, MX700, comes with rechargeable batteries and charger, park mouse in charger to recharge. Running it for 6 months now, recharge about once a week, have not replaced the batteries, no indication of when that might be neccessary. Runs smooth and quick, better than old USB.

Also got their wireless keyboard at the same time, 6 months on non-rechargeable batteries w/o replacement. Have issue with Shift Keys, if not hit on center, they stick, don't depress. Gets irritating.

When mouse batteries get low, if I forget to park in charger, get on screen warning to recharge. Hope same thing happens with keyboard.

    Like wireless mouse lots better.

Like Newt says, you could get NiMh, Wal Mart has a one hour charger comes with 4 AA NiMh about $20. Using them in my Olympus Digital Camera, real happy with them, better than OEM.

Took your advice Newt (should have done this a long time ago! ;) ) and bought a couple sets of Energizer NiMH batteries. 2100 mAh, so even running at 1.2v instead of the usual 1.5v, they should last something approaching Alkalines as well as the environmental advantages.
