I couldn't see this in F.A.Q. so I hope someone will reply.
Today I started to compose an e-mail and clicked on Address Book as usual.
    This message appeared:
Netscp has cause an error in ADDRBOOK.DLL.
    Netscp will now close.
If you continue to experience problems try restarting
    your computer.

I restarted the computer 3 times and still get this msg. Would someone please explain what the problem is and how to correct it.
    Thanks, Teric

    Good morning:
I should mention this as well: I thought I would ignore address book and simply type in the address. Doesn't work. When I hit send, the same error msg comes up. So, it appears I can't send e-mail.
    Regards, Teric

Can you give a few details, like Operating System, Netscape or Mozilla version, and where you got the download file. Also, did you have an earlier version which you did not uninstall, but rather install on top of the earlier.
I never heard of the problem, nor I saw it listed in a Search. The file is located in the Components folder of the program. The file in NS7.1 is 289 Kb, while the Mozilla1.7.1 file is 302Kb. Mozilla Thunderbird uses a different format.
    So, please, fill the blanks.

    Hi teric,

I have done several searches on this specific error, and have found absolutely nothing. When you've given us all the information requested by Westside, we can further advise you on whether or not you need to reinstall the browser. My educated guess is that the file is corrupt, and should be replaced.

    Thanks!

    Ramona

    EDIT:

I see that you were using Netscape 7.0 as of 6/04. If that is still the case, then I would uninstall via Add/Remove.
    Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs

Next: Delete the Netscape program folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
Back up your plugins folder first

Reboot your PC so the system can update files

Now reinstall Netscape. Your Profile will remain unaffected by the uninstall and you won't lose any of your data.

When Netscape 7.2 comes out, I would strongly recommend upgrading, or upgrade now to Mozilla 1.7.

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry - I should have given more info.
Yes, I'm still using Netscape 7.0 and have been considering 7.1 but haven't
downloaded yet. Also have Win ME which I keep hearing is unstable and prone to errors but this appears to be a Netscape problem.
Before I go through the procedure suggested by Ramona, could you please tell me if there are advantages to using Mozilla. I have had Netscape for years, since I started to struggle with the computer, and I like it even though people tell me I should be using Internet Explorer, which I don't like.
I'll stop rambling and look for your reply.
One other thing, I'm using Shaw Cable service, which is Canadian. My e-mail is
    santosbc@shaw.ca.
    Thanks for your help. Teric

    P.S. I am receiving e-mail OK.

    Hi,Ramona:
I'm adding this to my latest posting:
I went to Netscape and Mozilla Solutions,
Corrupt or Disappearing Netscp7 or Mozilla Addrss book
    Apparently written by you 02/29/04.
I opened abook.mab and saved it to desktop where it is now sitting. To backup I can transfer to my CD-RW where I save other stuff like bookmarks.
I'm not sure if this is of any use, but if it is, could you tell me what my next step should be or if this is not appropriate for the existing problem.
I sincerely hope you don't mind me going on like this.Still trying to learn.
    Teric

    Hi teric,

First, I would try the uninstall, and reinstall of Netscape 7.0. Then if the error persists, then we can try other solutions. Somehow, I don't believe the solution you found will do the trick.

Netscape 7.2 should be out within the next couple of weeks, so if I were you, I would wait for it, rather than install 7.1. Netscape 7.1 had a Base Install which does not contain the Mail & NG component. They may offer this again with 7.2. And I imagine Antony Shen, SillyDog701 will again give us his Streamline, and StandAlone browsers, with no AOL, or media players.
http://sillydog.org/narchive/sd/71.html I always use his Streamline Versions of Netscape.

If you want to try Mozilla, there is no need to uninstall Netscape 7.0 first. What you will want to do, however, is create a Profile for Mozilla BEFORE installing. This way Mozilla will not pick up your Netscape Profile. You can't share a single Profile, as it causes many problems.

Let us know if you have more questions, as that's why we're here.

    Hi Ramona:
Thanks for the information. I took too long to reply because our computer more or less died. Everything froze up so I had to get my step-son in to try and resolve. Ended up uninstalling Windows and Netscape and formatted hard drive.
Reinstalled Win ME (for now) and took your advice and installed Mozilla 1.71.
The problems I referred to are gone but, unfortunately, so are some other things due to a couple of errors he made. Oh well, losing a few files isn't the end of the world. By the way, I've already found a some things in Mozilla that are an improvement over Ntscp7. Thanks again. I'll probably be back.
    Regards, Teric

    Hi teric,

Whoa, what a bummer! Well, at least you have fresh install of Windows, and have moved onward and upward with Mozilla.! I hope you enjoy the program , and yes indeed, quite a few improvements over Netscape 7.
