    Background info:
I have a PalmVx which I hotsync with my DELL laptop (Win2K) at work via infrared. This works fine every time.
At Home I have a Toshiba A40 running Windows XPpro. When I try to do an Infrared Hotsync it gets so far and stops stating that the hotsync was interrupted.
I have diagnosed that the XP Wireless Link is continually beaming out to any device in range to make a connection. With Palmdesktop and Hotsync manager closed the Palm Vx reports "Beam Waiting for sender" the PC beeps and the IR Icon appears in the systray to report "username" in range.
I have turned Beam recieve off on the Palm which cures this whilst Palm Desktop and HS Manager are closed
I Start the Palm Desktop and or HS Manager and perform a Hotsync it bombs out two thirds of the way through (usually when it's backing up the databases) and HS log reports the connection was lost.
I am convinced that this is because MS Wireless link is still sending out "Calls" to other devices via Infrared. I have disabled all the Wireless link options I can from the Control panel applet. Searched the MS knowledgebase and the web to no avail. Lots of other people seem to have similar problems with this.
I don't want to disable the IR port and I know its is configured correctly.

So the question is, does anyone know how to DISABLE Wireless Link in XP? or at least disable the sending out of calls.???

I'm not very familiar with any of the features you are working with but a thing you can certainly try (harmless, quick to do, quick to undo) is to go into Services on XP and disable SSDP. See posts #5/6 on This thread for more detail.

    Disabling Wireless Link

    Hi Newt,
Thanks fot the suggestion but it did not work. I did try disabling a number of running services but the problem persists. I have tried the same IRDA device on my main PC running W2K and have no problems. If I enable beaming on the Palm the PC identifies the Palm is nearby and I can transfer files. As before If I disable beaming I can then hotsync OK.
Back on the XP laptop, when I hotsync, I get the IR icon on the system tray and clicking this brings up the wireless file transfer program (irftp service) but shutting this under Taskmanager still does not allow Hotsync to complete.
Looking at the Hotsync log, it always fails after exactly 2 minutes, perhaps this is the time between scans for IR devices by the PC. If so this time might be in the registry and could be lengthened thus allowing Hotsync to complete. Any ideas as to where to look?

Sorry no. But we have some wireless folks on the forum and hopefully one of them will have a clue.
