That's devastating. I'd be lost without Freecell.

If memory serves me right, Freecell only uses a small number of files in your system32 folder. If you can identify them (their names are fairly obvious - sorry not at a windows PC at the moment so can't see myself) you could try copying them from another PC with the same operating system.

By the way, I'd suggest this should have been posted to a more appropriate Topic Group - one of the OS groups.

    Thanks,
I'll try another group. By the way my system 32 folder only shows adobe and drivers present.

Boogie - Welcome to the Board :)

I realise you are new here, but please do not Double Post. If you post in error in the wrong forum do not submit an identical thread to another forum - gets very  and not to your advantage. The moderators will move your thread to the appropriate forum.

Moving this thread to Other Software and deleting the identical thread in that forum

This problem has been discussed before. (Search for threads containing
    the word "Solitaire ")
For some reason even MS cannot explain, a running app in your
tray (near the clock) is conflicting with MS card games execution.
Exit your tray apps one by one. After each exit, try to run Freecell.
You will probably find after exiting a particular app, that Freecell
    runs without a problem.
    regards

Freecell.exe is in my C:\WINNT\system32. However, merlin seems to be suggesting a much better solution to mine.

Boogie, Reboot in Safe Mode and double click Freecell in the Windows
folder. Do you still get the error ?
    regards
PS I know you will get bad graphics, but it will help us to know if the
    error message does not appear

Thanks for all the help. Its working again now. I couldnt get my computer to start in safe mode . I tried one more time tonight and as I was doing so was informed by my Norton antivirus that it had successfully remove the Backdoor trojan. I cant understand because I have all my Norton updates and scan everyday and have not had a virus detectd before. Plus I have adaware and spybot, anyway the bottom line is that freecell is working again.
Thanks agin for all the help

    Boogie.
